The annual Walk for Life, an event traditionally featuring a walk and speeches in support of the pro-life cause, took place again this year on May 31, but with a twist.

The event no longer came with the walk and instead was called the Festival for Life.

Susan Penner, the executive director of Life Culture, a Steinbach non-profit dedicated to supporting life and caring for women, said they had about 500 people come out to take part.

Speakers took on subject matter under the theme “caring for others”.

Speeches included the subject of caring for single moms, helping women who are struggling after an abortion, and caring about people at the end of their lives.

Attendees came with diapers, some of which will be distributed by Life Culture as needed and some of which was given to other organizations that help women and their families including South East Helping Hands.

Penner said their goal was to bring people together around a simple but important idea, “that life has inherent value and people deserve to be cared for.”

“Too often, conversations about life issues become focused on politics or division,” she said. “Instead, we want to create a positive narrative that highlights practical ways we can support people through every stage of life.”
