Marc A. Moir and Laura Kathleen Turner, co-artistic directors of Looking Glass Theatre (LGT), southeast Manitoba’s professional theatre company, announced their 2026/27 season, featuring a tense courtroom drama, a wild new comedy, a fairy tale show for kids, and one of Shakespeare’s masterpieces
The third season of LGT will officially kick off in October with the world premiere of Summation by Marc A. Moir. Two lawyers go head to head in this intense, high stakes he-said she-said defamation and assault trial, and the audience gets to be the jury. Each night, the audience will have the opportunity to weigh the evidence, vote and deliver a verdict on the case.
“What do you do when you have two people who both seem credible telling you two totally different stories, how do we adjudicate that as a society? It’s an idea that’s fascinated me for a long time,” Moir said. “We live in a culture that is so driven by jumping on a media or social media bandwagon that presents ideas or incidents as monolithic and black and white, when in reality so much of life is grey—especially when it comes to people and how we perceive things. It’s a very timely piece and one, I think, audiences will not only love as an intense and entertaining night of great theatre, but also spark many interesting conversations afterwards.”
In December, another world premiere, Couched by Marc A. Moir and Laura Kathleen Turner takes place in Los Angeles. A former actor turned therapist “treats” a notorious A-list actor trying to cope with fame and multiple personalities—one of which may have committed murder. This wild and hilarious new comedy will be made even wilder by the fact the two actors will be switching roles each night.
“It’s gonna be nuts,” Turner said. “This is a joke every few seconds kind of show. It’s farce, so it’s just wild and crazy. There’s music. There’s puppets. There’s double entendre everywhere and just the two most ridiculous self-absorbed characters we’ve ever tackled. And we’re switching roles every night! So you just have to see this one twice.”
In February, LGT is presenting a special show for families. Fairy Tails is another hilarious new offering for kids and their parents. It’s a live podcast with special celebrity guest the “big bad” Wolf. Mr. Wolf has hit a career slump. After his rise to stardom in the Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood, he is struggling to find work, as kids want more interesting fairy tale villains. Kids from three to 103 can enjoy watching this fun music and laugh filled telling of many believed fairy tales as the wolf searches for an opportunity to complete his career trilogy. Special reduced ticket prices will be available.
“Our first two offerings of the season are for more mature audiences so we wanted to do something specifically for families and kids,” Moir said. “There is nothing more special than that first theatrical experience. It’s truly magical and this will be the perfect family outing.”
In March LGT will round off the season by offering Steinbach’s first ever full production of Shakespeare, with his masterpiece Hamlet taking place in modern day Denmark. The King, Hamlet’s father has just died. His brother Claudius is now king and has also already married Hamlet’s mother. The ghost of the dead king appears to Hamlet with a startling revelation — he was murdered by Claudius. Hamlet, driven mad by grief and betrayal, plunges into a spiral of revenge, madness, and murder.
“This is a dream role for me,” says Turner (who is also directing). “I am so excited to tackle this character and this play. When we’ve done Shakespeare in the past, like our Shakespeare in the park or at the pub, people have consistently said the same thing: ‘I’ve never been able to understand Shakespeare, but when you guys do it finally makes sense.’ This play is one of the greatest scripts in the English canon and it will be a gripping and accessible night of classical theatre. You will not want to miss it.”
Some of these shows will also be presented in Winnipeg.
Throughout the season, LGT will also continue to offer free events such as Broadway Night, Shakespeare Night, Originals Night and more at The Public brewhouse and Gallery in Steinbach.
Season passes can be purchased at www.lookingglasstheatre.ca.
Regular season passes offer three tickets to use throughout the season, at a discounted rate. VIP passes offer three tickets with front row seating and various other perks, including getting to see Couched a second time for free.
“Whether you’re a ‘theatre person’ or not, we encourage you to come check us out,” says Moir. “If you like TV and movies, you’ll like theatre too. In fact, you may even like it more. Every play is a once in a lifetime experience. No two performances are ever the same. The audience is the final character and a live show is quite literally the only unmediated experience in our culture, the last thing we do without a phone in our hand, and we do it as a community. It’s truly magical. Buy a ticket, buy a pass, give us a shot. You won’t be disappointed.”
