Retail, car thieves arrested by Steinbach RCMP

RCMP have arrested three people for two retail thefts and a stolen car in Steinbach.

On July 9, at 5:40 p.m., police received a report of shoplifting at a retail store located at the 100 block on the east side of Highway 12 in the city. The caller said two men and one woman stole valuable items from the store and left in a black Ford Bronco.

Following the call, officers began looking for the car, which had been reported stolen from Winnipeg. Police found the vehicle parked at another retail store on the 100 block west side of Highway 12 in Steinbach.

Officers entered the store to look for the suspects and were told that one of the men and the woman had left the store through the back door fire exit and into the field adjacent to the store.

RCMP deployed a drone and saw the man and woman running north through the field. Officers chased the suspects and arrested them without incident. The third suspect was later located by police at another store nearby.

A 23-year-old woman has been released on conditions with a pending court date for charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. The woman has not been named because her information has not been sworn before the court yet prior to her release.

Jason Roorda, 39, has been remanded into custody for theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Guy Frigault, 40, has been remanded into custody for two counts of theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and failing to comply with a release order.

All the stolen items from the two retail stores were recovered and returned. It is believed that the retail value of the goods was more than $3,000. All the suspects were from Winnipeg.

Steinbach RCMP continue to investigate.
