Dubinsky commits to University of Manitoba

Austin Dubinsky is staying in Manitoba.

The 2005-born goaltender from Ardrossan, Alta. announced he was continuing his hockey career with the University of Manitoba, joining his Turnbull and Centennial Cup-winning teammate Hayden Wheddon on the Bisons.

“We are excited to add Austin to our program. He brings championship pedigree to the Bisons,” U of M head coach Gordon Burnett said in a news release.

“Austin is a very athletic goaltender that competes on every puck. Adding Austin gives us three goaltenders that can compete for the net and push each other every day to get better.”

Cole Plowman, who suited up for the Steinbach Pistons for two seasons and won a Turnbull Cup with the franchise in 2022/2023 as a back-up goalie is also part of the Bisons roster now.

In Wheddon and Dubinsky, the U of M gets the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s top scorer and top goaltender from last season on their roster.

Dubinsky was given the Ed Belfour Award (MJHL top goaltender) and play-off most valuable player honours. He lost just three games in regulation all of last season, including a combined record of 18-1 across the MJHL playoffs and National Championships.

The Bisons also signed Toronto defensemen Liam Longo last week. He suited up across from Dubinsky for the Ontario Junior Hockey League champions at this year’s Centennial Cup in Summerside.
