Eastman Selects Tomes, Rigaux pick up Hockey Manitoba scholarships

A pair of Eastman Selects U18 standouts were recognized for their strong play and schooling by Hockey Manitoba, as the organization announced their scholarship recipients for 2026 last week.

Goaltender Addie Tomes was given the Todd Davidson Memorial Scholarship and defender Vayda Rigaux claimed the Buck Matiowski Memorial Scholarship.

Tomes, who committed to the University of Saskatchewan, maintained a 90% average at St Mary’s Academy, in addition to being one of the Manitoba Female Hockey League’s top goaltenders.

Across her two years with the Selects program, she racked up a 34-4 record, with a save percentage above 0.950. Tomes also is a volunteer coach for other goaltenders.

Rigaux not only suited up for the Selects, but also for Glenlawn in the Manitoba high school league. She was named the league’s top defender in back-to-back seasons while maintaining a 98% average in school and serving as team captain.

Rigaux, who played on the Selects alongside her twin sister Delainey, set a new all-time record for points by an Eastman defender at the U18 level, finishing her career scoring more than a point-per-game for the organization.

She also volunteers with the school division’s learn to skate program.

Rigaux will be attending MacEwan University in Edmonton, as she continues her hockey career at the collegiate level.

Both Tomes and Rigaux were key contributors for the Selects as they hoisted the provincial championship in 2025.

Buck Matiowski was a true pioneer of hockey in Manitoba, organizing the first provincial women’s tournament in 1955 and founding Western Canada’s first summer hockey school. He served as president of the Manitoba Amateur Hockey Association and even was the person who proposed the idea to divide the province into regions for amateur hockey.

Todd Davidson played junior hockey in the Western Hockey League and was an assistant captain for Team Manitoba at the 2003 Canada Winter Games. Just days after graduating high school in 2004, he was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. “Todd applied his trademark perseverance and limitless spirit not only to his personal battle with cancer, but also to a larger goal, the fight to end cancer,” his Hockey Manitoba bio reads. Davidson died in December of 2006.
