LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Integrity matters, especially when it isn’t easy

Dawson Trail deserves a representative who answers to the people — not to a political party. For me, this has never been about following the easiest political path. It is about doing what I believe is right, even when it means standing up to people I once stood beside.

The Sio Silica project raised serious questions about transparency, accountability, and the responsibility of government to listen to the people who will live with its decisions.

Those questions mattered then. They still matter today.

I believe an MLA’s first responsibility is not to a party leader, a political organization or a party agenda. It is to the people who elected them. That is why I chose to stand on my own.

I am proud that the people who have worked alongside me in Dawson Trail — the volunteers, supporters, donors and members of our local organization — have continued to stand with me.

That tells me something important. This campaign is bigger than a party label. It is about trust. It is about accountability. It is about having the courage to say no when something isn’t right. And it is about having the independence to say yes when something is right for Dawson Trail — regardless of who gets the credit.

The next election isn’t simply about choosing a political party. It is about choosing who you trust to stand up for you.

I will continue to stand up for Dawson Trail. I will continue to ask the difficult questions. And I will continue to believe that integrity isn’t something you talk about during an election campaign — it’s something you demonstrate when the cameras aren’t watching.

Dawson Trail deserves nothing less.
