Providence women ranked in nation-wide top 10

The Providence Pilots women’s soccer team continued their winning ways with a bang, improving to 4-0-0 on the season with a pair of strong victories at home Sept. 19/20.

The Pilots opened the weekend with a demolition of the Assiniboine Cougars 11-0, before defeating St Boniface 2-0 the next day. Six different Providence players scored in the 11-0 win.

The women’s team were ranked 10th in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association rankings released Sept. 22.

On the men’s side, the Pilots found the win column for the first time this season, beating Assiboine 6-0 thanks to a two-goal performance from Ronnie Gibson.

Gibson rounded out his weekend with another goal the next day as they drew first-place St Boniface 2-2.

Imran Osman also found the back of the net in both games, and even assisted on Gibson’s tally against St Boniface. The rookie winger was named the conference player of the week. Les Rouges had yet to concede a goal this season before playing the Pilots.

Providence soccer will be on the road this weekend visiting CMU and Assiniboine in Brandon. They’ll be hosting the Brandon Bobcaats Oct. 4.

Providence’s cross country team also continued their inaugural season, competing in a 6km (women’s) and 8 km (men’s) race in Minnesota.

Owen Eisbrenner led the Pilots men at the St Olaf Invitational with a 31:02 and Amariah Zult led the women with a 26:32. The first MCAC Zone meet of the year will be Oct. 3.
