Serena Negrich just has a knack for scoring goals.

The Providence Pilots striker from Burnaby, B.C., racked up 17 goals this season across 12 games, nabbing the scoring title and conference player of the year honours as well.

This is the second consecutive year Negrich was named the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference top women’s player.

“Serena is an elite competitor whose quality on the ball, 1v1 ability, and attacking instincts make her a special player. Leading the league in both goals and points is a testament to her ability to impact games, but what truly sets her apart is her fierceness, competitiveness, consistency and competitive desire to grow and be great,” Pilots coach Tory Walker said in an MCAC news release.

“Whether in training or on game day, Serena brings an elite standard every time she steps on the field. She has earned this recognition through her relentless drive to compete and her ability to deliver when it matters most.”

Negrich scored four goals in the first half of the season and never stopped, finding the back of the net in all but two of Providence’s games this season. Halle Owen and Hayley Medeiros joined Negrich on the all-conference team.

“It’s my teammates, they make me look so great, I owe it to them,” Negrich said after the Pilots won the MCAC championship Nov. 1.

Providence goalkeeper Sara Zorniak was named the rookie of the year.

“Sara has been such an amazing signing for us. We knew she was a good goalie, but didn’t know the potential and ceiling she had,” Walker said.

“She has blown us away with her ability, and as her confidence grows, we know she will be a pillar of this team for years to come. She comes to training and games every day with a smile on her face, and her personality and joy for the game are amazing. She is a true joy to coach.”

St Boniface’s Reginald Jean-Paul was named the men’s player fo the year, anchoring the conference’s top defensive unit. Providence players Karan Bhangu, Marco Downie and Mosi William were named to the all-conference team.
