Busy weekend set for Southeast

If your plans for this weekend include wallowing at home, envying all of your friends away on vacation, it might surprise you to hear there’s actually a lot going on here in the Southeast.

You may not be experiencing another culture on the other side of the world, but at the Richer Roughstock Rodeo, you can witness muscled men sweep cattle off their feet in four seconds straight.

Or hold your breath as a brave soul attempts to cling to the back of a raging bull for eight seconds.

The Richer Rodeo’s running Friday to Sunday and also includes live performances, a petting zoo and a mechanical bull to give you a chance to prove your own showmanship.

Or maybe instead of rodeos, you’re looking for something a bit more friendly.

Not to worry, because the Landmark Friendship Festival’s also taking place this weekend. You can learn how to line dance, compete in the redneck night events and roast hot dogs over the fire at this festival.

There’s also going to be live bands, Folklorama presentations and a stand-up comedy routine from Matt Falk. The event runs Friday to Sunday.

In Sprague, they may be keeping the festivities to a single day, but they’re making sure to pack as many activities into it as possible.

At Sprague Fest, you can start your Saturday off by dousing a stack of pancakes with gallons of syrup during the pancake breakfast.

You’ll need that fuel if you’re going to nail those layups during their three-on-three basketball tournament. It’s a co-ed tournament, and all ages are welcome.

Or, if you prefer dabbing score cards to scoring baskets, you can also try to win big at their bingo tournament.

Can’t make up your mind about which festival to attend? Well, don’t decide too fast, because there’s one more event you should consider: Carrick Days.

Carrick Days runs Saturday and Sunday and it includes a parade, dunk tank and bean bag competition.

Not to mention Carrick’s horseshoe tournament, which the organizers guarantee will be legendary.

Admission for Carrick Days is $5 on Saturday, but free on Sunday.

A lot cheaper than flying to the Bahamas.
