If you see an emergency alert on your phone, TV or computer today, it’s because the Manitoba government is sending out a test message as part of Emergency Preparedness Week.

The alert is scheduled to be sent at 1:55 p.m.

The government hopes regularly testing these alerts will help Manitobans recognize how alerts should look and sound.

Although the government will be sending the test message across all compatible cell phones, cable, satellite TV, radio and web feeds, not all Manitobans will get the alert. The province said this could be indicate a need for software updates, that a device isn’t compatible, or it does not have a certain type of cell tower coverage.

The government said it welcomes feedback about the alert system following the test.
