Delegates at the Association of Manitoba Municipalities convention have selected RM of Morris reeve Ralph Groening as their next president.

Groening, who was acclaimed last month to his third term as reeve, will be joined on the AMM’s three-person executive by RM of Brokenhead reeve Brad Saluk and RM of Portage la Prairie reeve Kam Blight.

The trio will serve a two-year term.

Groening, a former AMM vice-president, will take the reins from former Steinbach mayor Chris Goertzen, who didn’t seek re-election.

In the weeks leading up to Tuesday’s vote, Groening told The Carillon he’d strive to balance the rural and urban interests and work to improve gaps in the province’s cellular and internet infrastructure.

The grain farmer’s only challenger for the top role was former AMM president Doug Dobrowolski, an RM of Macdonald councillor.
