A 35-year-old La Broquerie man faces charges related to impaired driving and resisting arrest, after fleeing the scene of an accident yesterday on Provincial Road 207 in the RM of Ste Anne.

Police were called to the incident around 3:30 p.m. after a suspect was observed consuming alcohol in his vehicle, before driving into a culvert beside the highway. Witnesses alleged the man was intoxicated, after noting a strong odour of alcohol and observing the manner in which the suspect “staggered/ran from the scene”, police said in a release. Several cans of alcoholic beverages were later found inside the vehicle, police added.

Officers made their way to a nearby residence after following a trail of footprints left by the suspect. Police dog services assisted in locating the suspect in a garage on the property.

The man’s blood alcohol level was found to be over three times the legal limit.

Jonathan Edward Forsyth, 35, was released from custody and will appear in Steinbach court at a later date.
